Completed>> 1/144 RX-78-2 GUNDAM Ver. G30th

My RX-78 entry for the Group Build is finally finished 😀

This project was started in 18th February 2010. I plan to finish it in a week, but it got postponed due to some important event that happen in my life. And it is finally done now 😀

The Kit

RX-78 is definitely my favorite. The classic and simple design is so hard to resist! Not to mention how Bandai treat it as a legend 😀 This one is a 1/144 scale HG RX-78-2 GUNDAM Ver. G3oth.

I am not constantly buying a Gunpla, so I don’t keep track of Gunpla’s price on the market. And then there is this one day when I was passing by in an online shop, I saw this version of RX-78 is sold on a very affordable price. I decided to buy it as a celebration after completing my thesis 😀 also to take some break from 3 consecutive military kits. It all comes in a very perfect timing 😀 Not to mention when I hop in right away after the announcement of RX-78 Group Build in RockLeeLotus’s blog.

The Build

To make this kit still have its original classic atmosphere, I decided only to change the color scheme. I think that by a combination of purple, white, yellow, and gray color will make the kit becomes more dynamic 😀

Doing it out-of-the-box style would also improve my basic technique such as seamline removal, masking, and airbrushing. I use Tamiya Acrylic Flat White for the white color, Tamiya Acrylic Lemon Yellow for the yellow, Tamiya Acrylic German Gray for the inner frame, Tamiya Acrylic Light Gray for the waist and weapon, and a mixture of Tamiya Acrylic Purple and Flat White for the purple color.

I did not do lining for this kit. After I take a look at the manual, the lining on this kit will make it becomes too crowded and it’ll erase the simplicity that I always aim 😀

There was a problem in the photo session though..My camera is somehow not able to capture the real purple color as it is T.T That’s why I asked the help of Aditya Rakhman, a photographer who has previously collaborated with me in here and here 😀 So it’s a big thanks to him!

So that’s a wrap of my RX-78 😀 Thanks a lot to RockLeeLotus for the Group Build on his blog 😀 Knowing that this is gonna be an entry for a group build makes me feel more motivated 😀 I can’t wait to see all you guys finish your RX-78 😀 Even if it gone far from the my actual deadline, still this is pretty fast build for my standard. Thank you all for following the progress, it’s been a total fun ^^

Very Unique. Would you want to take your toy to take under the sun. Maybe the truth purple will appear rather than under white light with reflection.

Nice, simple clean just like the anime 😀 Loved it!!!

Sometimes for 1/144 scale over panel lining and detailing kind of over kill lol 😀 Glad you decided to keep it simple!! Man…better start churning mine after June!!!

fantastic! congrats on completing your entry ^^ you achieved what you were aiming for, a dynamic yet simplistic build thats true to the classic style. nice little decals and im loving the purple beam saber, wasnt expecting that lol

not only that, you have a pro photographer to assist you in presenting the build XD lucky! great job h4mster ^_^b

    • h4mster says:

Thanks for the Group Build too man ^^
For the saber, I actually got the idea from LEon’s comment on the previous WIP post. So it is thanks to him also 😀
Looking forward to see yours in completion dude!

    perfectly done, great work.
    I like the photography too.

My friend built RX-78 30th because of the panel lines, so details, well maybe close-up shoots is better for this special kit.

    • h4mster says:

      Thanks 😀
Does your friend have a blog? If he does, you should ask him to join the Group Build 😀 When I buy this kit, I also thought all the detailed panel lines as a nice feature. But after the kit is near completion, I don’t think so anymore LoL.
I got a suggestion from netmorks.org about giving a light colored lining…if only I thought about that earlier..haha

Accurate or not, the colours scheme in these photos look great! I especially like the added touches the the knees — they are a great way to break up the somewhat boring bottom half of the original colour scheme.

I agree with your choice of not panel lining the kit for the most part, but I do wish that you made an exception for the head. Facial features and face vents kind of lack the depth needed to look clearly distinguishable. What do you think?

Anyhow, the model looks great overall, and I look forward to seeing more from you! =)

Since there are already two people commenting the same thing about the face, I’m gonna consider to add some lines on the face, Thanks for the suggestion 😀

It is finished!! The purple color makes it one of a kind. And I like the way you take the photo too.

By the way, the kit I am working on in HG Stark Jegan. Here is a link for my progres:

So fast! So h4mster is the first to finish the 78 in this group build 😀
yeah I heard this kit has so many panel lines that if you ink all the lines, it will look messy >.<

    Nice one bro!!

Ah! I finally found your blog! Your comment on my post didnt have your URL(very strange)
Nice build, love the simple look and the color combination. 🙂

  9. divinelight says:

regarding RX-78, will you also buy the next RG model?
I’m thinking of buying that one if it’s really good.

by the way, I’m moving to new site, hope you don’t mind to update my link in blogroll, thanks.
